Apolos
Seorang Yahudi yang “berasal dari Aleksandria”, seorang yang mahir dalam Kitab Suci dan fasih berbicara (Kisah Para Rasul 18:24; R.V., “terpelajar”). Ia datang ke Efesus (sekitar 49 M), tempat ia berbicara “dengan berani” di rumah ibadat (Kisah Para Rasul 18:26), meskipun saat itu ia belum tahu bahwa Yesus dari Nazaret adalah sang Mesias. Akwila dan Priskila menjelaskan kepadanya “Jalan Allah” dengan lebih tepat, yaitu dalam pengenalan akan Kristus. Ia kemudian pergi ke Korintus, tempat ia bertemu dengan Paulus (Kisah Para Rasul 18:27; 19:1). Di sana ia sangat berguna dalam menyirami benih baik yang telah ditabur Paulus (1 Korintus 1:12), dan dalam memenangkan banyak orang bagi Kristus. Pengikutnya sangat terikat kepadanya (1 Korintus 3:4-7, 22). Ia bersama Paulus di Efesus ketika Paulus menulis Surat Pertama kepada Jemaat di Korintus; dan Paulus menyebutnya dengan ramah dalam suratnya kepada Titus (1 Korintus 3:13). Beberapa orang menduga, meski tanpa dasar yang cukup, bahwa dialah penulis Surat Ibrani.
