Betania
Sebuah desa di lereng tenggara Bukit Zaitun (Markus 11:1), sekitar 3,2 km di sebelah timur Yerusalem, di jalan menuju Yerikho. Namanya berasal dari banyaknya pohon kurma yang tumbuh di sana. Tempat ini merupakan kediaman Lazarus dan saudara-saudara perempuannya. Kota ini sering disebutkan sehubungan dengan peristiwa-peristiwa penting dalam kehidupan Tuhan kita (Matius 21:17; 26:6; Markus 11:11, 12; 14:3; Lukas 24:50; Yohanes 11:1; 12:1). Sekarang dikenal dengan nama el-Azariyeh, yaitu, “tempat Lazarus,” atau sekadar Lazariyeh. Dilihat dari kejauhan, desa ini digambarkan “luar biasa indah, kesempurnaan perhentian dan ketenteraman, kesunyian dan kedamaian yang menyenangkan.” Sekarang menjadi desa sederhana yang dihuni sekitar dua puluh keluarga.
