Nama tempat di sekitar Hebron (lihat) tempat tinggal Abraham (Kejadian 23:17, 19; Kejadian 35:27); disebut juga dalam Authorized Version (Kejadian 13:18) sebagai “dataran Mamre,” tetapi dalam Revised Version lebih tepat disebut “pohon-pohon tarbantin [cat. pinggir: ‘terebintus’] Mamre.” Nama ini kemungkinan menunjukkan “hutan pohon tarbantin” atau “hutan Mamre”, yang dinamai menurut sekutu Abraham.

“Pohon tarbantin” ini pastilah berada di dekat pandangan atau “berseberangan dengan” Makhpela (lihat). Situs Mamre telah diidentifikasi dengan Ballatet Selta, yaitu “pohon tarbantin perhentian”, tempat terdapat sebatang pohon yang disebut “pohon tarbantin Abraham,” sekitar satu setengah mil di sebelah barat Hebron. Yang lain mengidentifikasinya dengan er-Rameh, 2 mil di sebelah utara Hebron.
