Medeba
Air yang tenang, sebuah kota kuno bangsa Moab (Bilangan 21:30). Kota ini dibagikan kepada suku Ruben (Yosua 13:16). Di sinilah terjadi pertempuran besar ketika Yoab mengalahkan orang Amon beserta sekutu-sekutu mereka (1 Tawarikh 19:7-15; bdk. 2 Samuel 10:6-14). Pada zaman Yesaya (2 Samuel 15:2), bangsa Moab merebut kembali kota ini dari tangan orang Amon.
Reruntuhan kota penting ini, yang sekarang disebut Madeba atau Madiyabah, terlihat sekitar 8 mil di sebelah barat daya Hesybon, dan 14 mil di sebelah timur Laut Mati. Di antaranya terdapat reruntuhan bangunan yang dahulunya pasti berupa kuil besar, serta tiga waduk yang cukup luas yang kini telah kering. Waduk-waduk ini mungkin menjadi asal mula nama Medeba, “air yang tenang.”
