Mefiboset
Anak Yonatan, dan cucu Saul (2 Samuel 4:4). Usianya baru lima tahun ketika ayah dan kakeknya gugur di Pegunungan Gilboa. Inang pengasuh anak itu mendengar malapetaka ini, lalu melarikan diri bersamanya dari Gibea, kediaman raja, dan karena terburu-buru, anak itu terjatuh hingga kedua kakinya cacat, dan sejak saat itu tidak dapat berjalan (2 Samuel 19:26). Dia dibawa ke tanah Gilead, tempat dia mendapat perlindungan di rumah Makhir, anak Amiel, di Lo-Debar, yang membesarkannya.
Beberapa tahun setelah peristiwa ini, ketika Daud telah menundukkan semua musuh Israel, dia mulai mengingat keluarga Yonatan, dan mengetahui bahwa Mefiboset tinggal di rumah Makhir. Ke sanalah Daud mengutus para utusan raja, dan membawanya beserta anak laki-lakinya yang masih kecil ke Yerusalem, tempat dia tinggal seterusnya (2 Samuel 9).
Ketika Daud menjadi pelarian, menurut cerita Ziba (2 Samuel 16:1-4) Mefiboset tidak setia kepadanya, sehingga kehilangan separuh dari tanah miliknya; namun menurut cerita Mefiboset sendiri (2 Samuel 19:24-30), dia tetap setia kepada sahabatnya itu. Setelah peristiwa ini, dia hanya disebutkan pernah dilindungi oleh Daud dari pembalasan yang diizinkan untuk dilakukan orang Gibeon terhadap keluarga Saul (2 Samuel 21:7). Dia juga disebut Merib-Baal (1 Tawarikh 8:34; 9:40).
