Gunung Sion
Bercahaya matahari; ketinggian, salah satu bukit tempat Yerusalem dibangun. Bukit ini dikelilingi di semua sisi, kecuali sebelah utara, oleh lembah-lembah yang dalam, di antaranya Lembah Tyropoeon (lihat artikel terkait) yang memisahkannya dari Moria (lihat artikel terkait), yang tingginya dilampauinya sejauh 105 kaki. Bukit ini merupakan bukit bagian tenggara Yerusalem.
Ketika Daud merebutnya dari orang Yebus (Yosua 15:63; 2 Samuel 5:7), ia mendirikan sebuah benteng dan istana di sana, dan tempat itu menjadi “kota Daud” (1 Raja-raja 8:1; 2 Raja-raja 19:21, 31; 1 Tawarikh 11:5). Dalam kitab-kitab Perjanjian Lama yang lebih kemudian, nama ini kadang-kadang digunakan (Mazmur 87:2; 149:2; Yesaya 33:14; Yoel 2:1) untuk merujuk pada Yerusalem secara umum, dan kadang-kadang umat pilihan Allah, Israel (Mazmur 51:18; 87:5).
Dalam Perjanjian Baru, nama ini kadang-kadang digunakan untuk menyebut Jemaat Allah (Ibrani 12:22), dan kadang-kadang kota surgawi (Wahyu 14:1).
