Put ditempatkan di antara Mesir dan Kanaan dalam Kejadian 10:6, dan di tempat lain orang Put digambarkan sebagai prajurit bayaran dalam pasukan Mesir dan Tirus (Yeremia 46:9; Yehezkiel 30:5; 27:10). Dalam sebuah fragmen tawarikh Nebukadnezar yang mencatat invasinya ke Mesir, terdapat rujukan kepada “Put orang Ionia.”
