Rut
Seorang sahabat, perempuan Moab, istri Mahlon, yang ayahnya, Elimelekh, telah menetap di tanah Moab. Setelah kematian Elimelekh dan Mahlon, Naomi pergi bersama Rut, menantunya yang menolak untuk meninggalkannya, ke Betlehem, kampung halaman lama tempat Elimelekh bermigrasi. Di sana ia memiliki seorang kerabat kaya, Boas, yang akhirnya menikahi Rut. Rut menjadi ibu dari Obed, kakek Daud. Dengan demikian Rut, seorang non-Yahudi, termasuk di antara leluhur perempuan Tuhan kita (Matius 1:5). Kisah tentang “pemungut jelai Rut menggambarkan hubungan ramah antara Boas yang baik dan para penuainya, sistem pertanahan Yahudi, cara pemindahtanganan kepemilikan tanah dari satu orang ke orang lain, penerapan hukum Musa untuk membantu keluarga yang kesusahan dan hancur; namun, yang terutama, meneruskan ketidakegoisan, kasih yang berani, kepercayaan tak tergoyahkan dari perempuan yang, meskipun bukan dari bangsa pilihan, sama seperti Tamar perempuan Kanaan (Kejadian 38:29; Matius 1:3) dan Rahab perempuan Kanaan (Matius 1:5), mendapat kehormatan menjadi leluhur Daud, dan karenanya leluhur dari ‘Anak yang lebih besar dari Daud yang agung’” (Rut 4:18-22).
