Tribe of Asher

Asher was a son of Jacob and Zilpah whose tribe settled along the Mediterranean coast in the north. Both Jacob's and Moses's blessings on Asher emphasize rich food and abundant oil (Genesis 49:20, Deuteronomy 33:24-25), reflecting the fertility of its coastal land.
