Tribe of Joseph

Jacob adopted Joseph's two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, as his own (Genesis 48), so Joseph's descendants effectively received two tribal territories instead of one. Some biblical lists name Ephraim and Manasseh as separate tribes; others, as here, group them together simply as "Joseph."
