Valley of Elah
DavidWhile Saul's army faced the Philistines across the Valley of Elah, the giant champion Goliath challenged Israel to send one man to settle the war in single combat. David, a shepherd boy too young for Saul's armor, refused sword and shield, felled Goliath with a sling stone, and beheaded him with the giant's own weapon. The victory launched David's rise from shepherd to national hero.
