Orang
Orang Hewi
Salah satu suku asli yang tersebar di seluruh Palestina, dari Hermon hingga Gibeon di selatan. Namanya ditafsirkan sebagai “penduduk pedalaman” atau “orang desa” (Kejadian 10:17; 1 Tawarikh 1:15). Mereka kemungkinan merupakan cabang dari orang Het. Pada saat Yakub kembali ke Kanaan, Hemor orang Hewi adalah “raja negeri itu” (Kejadian 24:2-28).
Mereka kemudian disebutkan pada masa Penaklukan Kanaan (Yosua 9:7; 11:19). Mereka terutama mendiami wilayah utara Palestina Barat (Yosua 11:3; Hakim-hakim 3:3). Sisa-sisa dari mereka masih ada pada zaman Salomo (1 Raja-raja 9:20).
