Firaun Nekho II dari Mesir sedang bergerak ke utara untuk membantu sisa-sisa Asyur melawan Babel ketika Raja Yosia dari Yehuda mencoba menghalangi perjalanannya di Megido; Nekho membunuh Yosia dalam pertempuran itu (2 Raja-raja 23:29). Dia kemudian menggulingkan penerus Yosia, Yoahas, mengasingkannya ke Mesir, dan mengangkat Yoyakim sebagai raja bawahan pembayar upeti untuk menggantikannya (2 Raja-raja 23:31-35). Yeremia 46 mencatat sebuah nubuat menentang pasukan Nekho setelah kekalahannya di kemudian hari oleh Babel di Karkhemis.

2 Kings 23:33	And Pharaohnechoh put him in bands at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of an hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.
