Sion
Terik matahari; ketinggian, salah satu bukit tempat Yerusalem dibangun. Bukit ini dikelilingi lembah-lembah yang dalam di semua sisi kecuali di sebelah utara; Lembah Tyropoeon (lihat artikel terkait) memisahkannya dari Moria (lihat artikel terkait), yang dilampaui tingginya sekitar 32 meter oleh bukit ini. Bukit ini merupakan bukit tenggara Yerusalem.
Ketika Daud merebutnya dari orang Yebus (Yosua 15:63; 2 Samuel 5:7), ia membangun sebuah benteng dan istana di sana, dan tempat itu menjadi “kota Daud” (1 Raja-raja 8:1; 2 Raja-raja 19:21, 31; 1 Tawarikh 11:5). Dalam kitab-kitab Perjanjian Lama yang terkemudian, nama ini terkadang digunakan (Mazmur 87:2; 149:2; Yesaya 33:14; Yoel 2:1) untuk menyebut Yerusalem secara umum, dan terkadang umat pilihan Allah, Israel (Mazmur 51:18; 87:5).
Dalam Perjanjian Baru, nama ini terkadang digunakan untuk melambangkan Gereja Allah (Ibrani 12:22), dan terkadang kota surgawi (Wahyu 14:1).
