Généalogie de Jésus
Matthew opens his gospel by tracing Jesus's line forward from Abraham through David to Joseph. Luke runs the same territory in reverse, from Jesus back to Adam, and names Joseph's father as Heli rather than Matthew's Jacob. The two lists agree on almost nothing after David: Matthew follows the royal line through Solomon, Luke follows a different son, Nathan. This tree follows a reading nearly as old as the text itself, that Luke's genealogy is really Mary's, with Heli as her father rather than Joseph's. That's the split you'll see below David: two branches, Solomon's and Nathan's, that stay apart until Joseph marries Mary and the lines meet in Jesus.
