Petinju atau klien, salah satu dari dua anak Imam Besar Eli (1 Samuel 1:3; 2:34), yang menyerahkan tugas-tugas aktif jabatannya kepada mereka karena dia sudah “sangat tua.” Akibat kelakuan mereka yang memalukan, mereka mendatangkan kutuk atas keluarga ayah mereka (1 Samuel 2:22, 12-27, 27-36; 1 Samuel 3:11-14). Karena kejahatan mereka, mereka disebut “orang-orang dursila”, yaitu orang-orang yang tidak berguna (1 Samuel 2:12). Keduanya tewas dalam pertempuran tragis melawan orang Filistin di Afek (1 Samuel 4:11).

1 Samuel 2:34	And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.
1 Samuel 4:4	So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubims: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
