Mount Hermon is the tallest peak in the region, marking the northern edge of Israelite territory near the border of Lebanon and Syria. Its snow-capped height made it a natural landmark referenced alongside Mount Zion in Psalm 133:3, and later Christian tradition places Jesus's transfiguration on its slopes, though the Gospels themselves do not name the mountain.
