Một vùng; nơi trú ngụ, một thành và quận hạt rất cổ xưa ở ranh giới phía nam xứ Pa-lét-tin, do một vị vua tên là A-bi-mê-léc cai trị (Sáng-thế Ký 10:19; 20:1, 2). Áp-ra-ham đã kiều ngụ tại đây, và có lẽ Y-sác đã sinh ra ở nơi này. Cả hai tổ phụ đều phạm tội chối vợ tại đây, và cả hai đều lập hòa ước với vua trước khi lên đường đến Bê-e-sê-ba (Sáng-thế Ký 21:23-34; 26). Nơi đây dường như là một vùng đất chăn nuôi trù phú (2 Sử-ký 14:12-18). Tại đây, Y-sác đã gặt được gấp trăm lần và được Đức Chúa Trời ban phước (Sáng-thế Ký 26:12). “Trũng Ghê-ra” (Sáng-thế Ký 26:17) có lẽ là Wady el-Jerdr ngày nay.
