(Giô-suê 15:8; 18:16, bản R.V.). Khi Đa-vít trở thành vua trên toàn thể Y-sơ-ra-ên, dân Phi-li-tin nhận định rằng ông sẽ trở thành kẻ thù không đội trời chung nên đã bất ngờ tấn công Hếp-rôn, buộc Đa-vít phải rút lui. Ông tìm nơi ẩn náu tại “đồn” A-đu-lam (2 Sa-mu-ên 5:17-22), và quân Phi-li-tin đóng quân tại trũng Rê-pha-im, ở phía tây và tây nam Giê-ru-sa-lem. Do đó, mọi sự liên lạc giữa Bết-lê-hem và Giê-ru-sa-lem đều bị chặn đứng. Khi Đa-vít và quân đội đóng trại tại đây, sự việc thuật lại trong 2 Sa-mu-ên 23:15-17 đã xảy ra. Sau khi nhận được sự chỉ dẫn từ Đức Chúa Trời, Đa-vít đã dẫn quân đánh bại hoàn toàn dân Phi-li-tin. Địa điểm diễn ra chiến thắng này sau đó được gọi là Ba-anh-Phê-ra-xim (xem mục này).
Tuy nhiên, dân Phi-li-tin đã tập hợp lực lượng lần thứ hai trong thung lũng này (2 Sa-mu-ên 5:22). Lại được sấm ngôn thiêng liêng cảnh báo, Đa-vít dẫn quân đến Ga-ba-ôn và tấn công dân Phi-li-tin từ phía nam, giáng cho chúng một thất bại nặng nề khác và truy kích tàn sát quân thù cho đến Ghê-xe (xem mục này). Tại đó Đa-vít đã kiềm chế được những kẻ thù này của Y-sơ-ra-ên. Thung lũng này ngày nay được gọi là el-Bukei’a.
