Chief Priests
The "chief priests" were the ruling leadership of the Jerusalem temple: the current high priest, former high priests, and the heads of the priestly divisions. The Gospels repeatedly show them leading the opposition to Jesus and arranging his arrest and trial, and Acts shows them later opposing the apostles in the same way.
