Daughter of Herodias
This unnamed daughter of Herodias danced before Herod Antipas at his birthday banquet and pleased him so much that he offered her anything she wanted, up to half his kingdom (Mark 6:21-23). Prompted by her mother, she asked for John the Baptist's head on a platter, and Herod, unwilling to break his oath in front of his guests, had John beheaded (Matthew 14:6-11; Mark 6:24-28). The Gospels do not give her name; the historian Josephus identifies her as Salome.
