Elam was the ancestor of a family of 1,254 people who returned from Babylonian exile with Zerubbabel (Ezra 2:7). One of his descendants, Shechaniah, later urged Ezra to press ahead with having the returned exiles separate from their foreign wives (Ezra 10:2).
