Isakhar
Upahan (Kejadian 30:18). “Allah telah memberikan kepadaku,” kata Lea, “upahku (Ibr. sekhari)... dan menamai dia Isakhar.” Ia adalah putra kesembilan Yakub, dan lahir di Padan-Aram (bdk. Kejadian 28:2). Ia memiliki empat putra saat pergi ke Mesir (Kejadian 46:13; Bilangan 26:23, 25).
Suku Isakhar, selama perjalanan melintasi padang belantara, bersama dengan Yehuda dan Zebulon (Bilangan 2:5), berjalan di sebelah timur Tenda Suci. Suku ini memiliki 54.400 prajurit ketika sensus dilakukan di Sinai. Setelah memasuki Tanah Perjanjian, suku ini merupakan salah satu dari enam suku yang berdiri di atas Gunung Gerizim selama upacara pengucapan berkat dan kutuk (Ulangan 27:12). Pembagian wilayah Isakhar dijelaskan dalam Yosua 19:17-23. Wilayahnya mencakup dataran Esdraelon (=Yizreel), yang dahulu dan masih merupakan bagian tersubur di Palestina (Ulangan 33:18, 19; 1 Tawarikh 12:40).
Berkat nubuat yang diucapkan oleh Yakub atas Isakhar selaras dengan berkat dari Musa (Kejadian 49:14, 15; bdk. Ulangan 33:18, 19).
