Ruben
Lihatlah seorang anak laki-laki!, anak sulung Yakub dan Lea (Kejadian 29:32). Perilakunya yang berdosa, yang disebutkan dalam Kejadian 35:22, mendatangkan kutukan ayahnya menjelang kematiannya (Kejadian 48:4). Dia menunjukkan kebaikan kepada Yusuf, dan menjadi sarana untuk menyelamatkan nyawanya ketika saudara-saudaranya yang lain ingin membunuhnya (Kejadian 37:21, 22). Dia juga yang menjaminkan nyawanya dan nyawa anak-anaknya ketika Yakub tidak mau membiarkan Benyamin pergi ke Mesir. Setelah Yakub dan keluarganya pergi ke Mesir (Kejadian 46:8), tidak ada lagi penyebutan lebih lanjut tentang Ruben selain dari apa yang dicatat dalam ps. Kejadian 49:3, 4.
