This Lazarus is the beggar in Jesus's parable of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31), not the man Jesus raised from the dead in John 11, who is a different, historical Lazarus recorded elsewhere in the Bible. In the parable, the poor and sick Lazarus lies at a rich man's gate and, after death, is carried to Abraham's side while the rich man suffers in torment. He is the only character given a name in any of Jesus's parables.
