Con trai và là người kế nhiệm Xa-đốc trong chức vụ thầy tế lễ thượng phẩm (1 Sử-ký 6:8, 53). Khi Áp-sa-lôm phản loạn, ông vẫn trung thành với Đa-vít và giúp ích cho vua bằng cách truyền tin tức về các hoạt động của Áp-sa-lôm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem (2 Sa-mu-ên 15:24-37; 17:15-21). Ông chạy rất nhanh và là người đầu tiên đem tin Áp-sa-lôm bị đánh bại về cho Đa-vít, dẫu vì tế nhị nên ông đã tránh không báo tin Áp-sa-lôm đã chết (2 Sa-mu-ên 18:19-33).
