Con trai của A-hi-túp, thuộc dòng dõi Ê-lê-a-sa (2 Sa-mu-ên 8:17; 1 Sử-ký 24:3), thầy tế lễ thượng phẩm vào thời Đa-vít (2 Sa-mu-ên 20:25) và Sa-lô-môn (1 Các Vua 4:4). Ông được nhắc đến lần đầu tiên khi đến hiệp lực với Đa-vít tại Hếp-rôn (1 Sử-ký 12:27, 28). Có lẽ vì lý do này mà ông được đặt làm người cai quản dòng dõi A-rôn (1 Sử-ký 27:17). Xa-đốc và A-bia-tha đã cùng thi hành chức vụ thầy tế lễ thượng phẩm trong một số dịp quan trọng (1 Sử-ký 15:11; 2 Sa-mu-ên 15:24-29, 35, 36); nhưng khi A-đô-ni-gia tìm cách đoạt ngai vàng, A-bia-tha đã theo phe người ấy, và vì thế Sa-lô-môn đã “đuổi A-bia-tha không cho làm thầy tế lễ nữa”, còn Xa-đốc, nhờ giữ lòng trung thành với Đa-vít, đã trở thành thầy tế lễ thượng phẩm duy nhất (1 Các Vua 2:27, 35; 1 Sử-ký 29:22). Nơi ông, dòng dõi Phi-nê-a đã lấy lại được phẩm vị cao quý này và giữ cho đến khi Giê-ru-sa-lem sụp đổ. Kế nhiệm thánh chức của ông là con trai ông, A-xa-ria (1 Các Vua 4:2; so sánh 1 Sử-ký 6:3-9).
