Nam phương
Tiếng Hê-bơ-rơ là Negeb, vùng đất khô cằn ở phía nam Pa-lét-tin, nơi có tuyến đường đoàn buôn đi từ miền trung Pa-lét-tin đến Ê-díp-tô (Sáng-thế Ký 12:9; 13:1, 3; 46:1-6). “Vùng Nê-ghép bao gồm một dải đất rộng lớn nhưng có hình thù không đều, phần chính trải dài từ vùng núi và đồng bằng Giu-đa ở phía bắc đến dãy núi Azazemeh ở phía nam, và từ Biển Chết cùng phía nam Ghor ở phía đông đến Địa Trung Hải ở phía tây.” Trong Ê-xê-chi-ên 20:46 (Ê-xê-chi-ên 21:1 trong tiếng Hê-bơ-rơ) có ba từ Hê-bơ-rơ khác nhau đều được dịch là “phương nam”. (1) “Hãy xây mặt về phía nam” (Teman, vùng đất bên tay phải, 1 Sa-mu-ên 33:24); (2) “Hãy buông lời về phía nam” (Negeb, vùng đất khô hạn, Giô-suê 15:4); (3) “Hãy nói tiên tri nghịch cùng rừng của đồng phương nam” (Darom, vùng đất sáng láng, Phục-truyền Luật-lệ Ký 33:23). Trong Gióp 37:9, từ “phương nam” theo nghĩa đen là “buồng kín”, ở đây được dùng theo nghĩa kho chứa (so sánh Gióp 38:22; Thi-thiên 135:7). Câu này trong Bản Hiệu Đính được dịch là “từ buồng kín phương nam”.
