Một vùng đất nổi tiếng về vàng (1 Các Vua 9:28; 10:11; 22:48; Gióp 22:24; 28:16; Ê-sai 13:12). Trong Bản Bảy Mươi (LXX), từ này được dịch là “Sophir”, và “Sofir” là tên tiếng Copt chỉ Ấn Độ, đây cũng là cách dịch của bản tiếng Ả Rập cũng như bản Vulgata. Josephus đã nhận diện nơi này với Bán đảo Vàng (Golden Chersonese), tức bán đảo Mã Lai. Ngày nay nơi này thường được nhận diện với Abhira, ở cửa sông Ấn. Tuy nhiên, có nhiều lập luận ủng hộ quan điểm rằng nơi này nằm ở một địa điểm nào đó thuộc bán đảo Ả-rập.
