Eliphaz the Temanite was the first and most prominent of Job's three friends, who came to comfort him after his losses and then argued that his suffering must be punishment for hidden sin (Job 2:11; Job 4; Job 15; Job 22). At the book's end, God rebukes Eliphaz and his companions for not speaking rightly about him, and has Job pray for their forgiveness (Job 42:7-9).
