Pharaoh Hophra, known to historians as Apries, was the Egyptian king to whom Jeremiah addressed a prophecy of judgment, declaring that God would hand him over to his enemies just as Zedekiah of Judah had been handed to Nebuchadnezzar (Jeremiah 44:30). Egyptian and Greek records confirm that Apries was later overthrown in a domestic uprising and killed, matching that earlier warning. He reigned during the final years of the kingdom of Judah, when Egypt and Babylon were rival powers contesting the region.
