Roman Trials
Jesus is brought before the Roman governor Pontius Pilate, who finds no legal basis for a death sentence but, under pressure from the crowd and Jewish leaders, ultimately hands him over to be crucified after offering unsuccessfully to release him instead of Barabbas (Matthew 27:11-26; Luke 23:6-12 records Pilate also sending Jesus to Herod Antipas).
