Stephen is stoned
Stephen, one of the seven chosen to serve the early church, is stoned to death after a speech before the Sanhedrin accusing Jewish leaders of resisting the Holy Spirit as their ancestors had, becoming Christianity's first martyr (Acts 7). A young man named Saul, later the apostle Paul, approves of his death and guards the coats of those who stone him.
