Tahpanhes was an Egyptian city near the eastern border where a group of Judahites fled after the assassination of the Babylonian-appointed governor Gedaliah, forcibly bringing the prophet Jeremiah with them (Jeremiah 43). Jeremiah prophesied there that Nebuchadnezzar would one day set his throne at the city's entrance.
