Tribe of Dan

Dan was a son of Jacob and Rachel's servant Bilhah. His tribe struggled to hold its allotted territory and migrated north, conquering the city of Laish and renaming it Dan (Judges 18). The tribe became associated with idolatry, first through the shrine it set up there and later through Jeroboam's golden calf, and it is left off the list of tribes in Revelation 7.
