John's Gospel: 'that ye might believe'

Ephesus

John

The apostle John, tradition says, spent his final years in Ephesus, where he is credited with writing the fourth gospel around AD 90, decades after the other three. Its prologue identifies Jesus as the eternal Word made flesh, and its narrative selects a smaller set of signs than the other gospels, chosen, the author says, to lead readers toward faith. Its distinct style and theological depth have long set it apart from Matthew, Mark, and Luke.

β€œThese are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.”
John 20:31 (KJV)
