Solomon builds the Temple

Jerusalem

Solomon

Solomon spent seven years building a permanent temple in Jerusalem on the site his father David had prepared, using cedar from Lebanon and skilled labor from Tyre. The finished structure replaced the portable tabernacle as the center of Israelite worship and housed the ark of the covenant in its innermost chamber. John's gospel later records Jesus using the temple as a figure for his own body.
