The birth of Jesus Christ

Bethlehem

Jesus

Luke ties Jesus' birth to a Roman census that took Joseph and Mary from Nazareth to Bethlehem, where she gave birth and laid the child in a feeding trough for lack of room. Shepherds nearby reported an angelic announcement calling him Savior and Christ. Micah had named Bethlehem as the origin of Israel's future ruler; John's Gospel later described the event as the Word becoming flesh.

β€œFor unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
Luke 2:11 (KJV)
