Person

Er

Gender:
Male
Verse mentions:
6

Er was Judah's firstborn son and Tamar's first husband. Genesis says the Lord put him to death for his wickedness without specifying the offense (Genesis 38:6-7). His death without children sets up the rest of the chapter: his brother Onan's refusal to father an heir for him, and Tamar's eventual deception of Judah himself to secure one.
