Shimei (also spelled Shimi) was a son of Gershon and grandson of Levi whose descendants formed a Levitical clan (Exodus 6:17; Numbers 3:18). Zechariah's vision of a future day of mourning singles out "the family of Shimei" among the Levites who will grieve apart (Zechariah 12:13).
