Con trai của Ma-na-se, và là vị vua thứ mười bốn của Giu-đa. Ông khôi phục lại sự thờ hình tượng và dựng lại những hình tượng mà cha ông đã hạ xuống. Xô-phô-ni (1:4; 3:4, 11) nhắc đến tình trạng suy đồi đạo đức thịnh hành trong triều đại vị vua này.

Ông bị các tôi tớ lập mưu phản nghịch và ám sát (2 Các Vua 21:18-26; 2 Sử-ký 33:20-25).
